DANCER, MOLLY SCHNEIDER PEREZ RECEIVES A HAMBIDGE RESIDENCY GRANT FROM THE CITY OF ATLANTA OFFICE OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS
The City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs recently awarded dancer, Molly Schneider Perez, an Emerging Artist Award in recognition for artistic vision and achievement as a new and upcoming professional artist who lives and creates in Atlanta. As part of this award they have joined Hambidge in supporting the arts by providing her with a two-week residency here in the North Georgia mountains. Hambidge is both excited and proud to be connected with this Atlanta arts agency and the outstanding work it does to promote and sustain creativity in the southeast. Our thanks go to Camille Russell Love, Director of the City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs and to Monica D. Prothro, Project Supervisor, Contracts For Arts Services, for allowing us to partner with them in supporting the Arts in Atlanta.

HAMBIDGE TRAIL DAY, SPRING 2008
On April 19th, a group of intrepid and dedicated Hambidge Fellows and Board Members braved nipping temperatures and morning rain, to converge on Jean’s Trail near Patterson Gap Road. The morning showers ended and the sun emerged to create a great, but muddy day for digging, sawing, lopping and pruning. Previously this trail approached from two directions without being able to meet in the middle because of the steep terrain. A new “switchback” was created with two sets of steps that serve to connect the trails into one, manageable pathway. Hambidge Fellow Jeremy Lloyd and his wife Elan came from Tennessee to lead the group and direct the trail blazing efforts. Jeremy is a writer and musician and since 2001 has been a Senior Teacher and Naturalist with the Great Smoky Mountains Institute. He has shared his “trail savvy” with Hambidge on a number of occasions and we thank him for always being ready to lend a hand. It was a great day of hard work and satisfaction. Now Jean’s Trail and the beautiful falls and cascades that follow its course will be more accessible to all of our Fellows.
Many thanks go to the following worker bees: Susie and Lee Winton, Leckie Stack, Cecelia Kane, Rodney Grainger, David Martin, Jack Lawing, Fred and Lib Menger, Bob Thomas, Jeremy and Elan Lloyd.
Fellows, watch for the next Trail Day invitation in your email box and if you’re not a Hambidge Fellow, but would like to participate in the next Trail Day event, please contact Bob Thomas, the Residency Director at residents@hambidge.org.
