We turned the space into a creative playground through art, food and performances AND HAD OUR MOST SUCCESSFUL ART AUCTION TO DATE!

In addition to a variety of playful fun and games, the Performance Party featured an exciting lineup! Artist and Curator Didi Dunphy brought her sense of fun to the event with her signature interactive play sculptures, a participatory "Craft Table" performance, and an artful scavenger hunt. In "The Games We Dance," performers from Bautanzt Here activated the Atrium with dynamic performances based on play, reimagining well-known games through the lens of dance and costuming. The improvisations of Dan Carey Bailey, Chris Suarez, and Kenito Murray performed with acoustic, electric and electronic sounds, creating winding paths along evolving soundscapes that shift between ambient textures and exciting rhythms. Skillshot presented the game "Beat Saber," a Virtual Reality rhythm game that combines original music with lightsaber slashing in a surrealistic neon environment.

We also offered our very popular $100 Works of Art. These pieces were available online September 10 at 7-10pm and were valued at well over $100. And there's no bidding - so if you saw something you liked, you should have acted fast.

If you didn’t join us in person, you still were able to support Hambidge and make incredible additions to your art collection! All bidding will took place through our online auction platform, August 24-September 10, 10pm.

This year, we honored Hambidge Fellow Steven Satterfield + Miller Union.
Steven Satterfield, a Hambidge Fellow, is the executive chef and co-owner of Miller Union, an award-winning, seasonally driven restaurant located in Atlanta's Westside neighborhood. Since opening in 2009, the restaurant has received various honors on many national lists, including Eater, Bon Appetit, Food & Wine and Esquire.

PERFORMERS

Didi Dunphy's recognizable interdisciplinary approach and social engagement imagines a playful place using materials from video, steel, craft, hopes and dreams. Inciting the potential absurdity of wishful thinking yet always, if not overly optimistic, Dunphy's work combines high tech post-studio fabrication with "women's work." Trained in the performance of the female body, Dunphy utilizes her physical form to drive scale. Whether miniature or monumental, always feminine, her work demands to incite joy as an endless pursuit. Dunphy is a Hambidge Fellow and is represented by Whitespace Gallery.

Bautanzt Here (from Bau - "build", Tanzt - "dances" in German; "Here" referencing the nomadic and location based nature of works) is a site-specific dance theatre based in Atlanta. It was founded by Nadya Zeitlin in May, 2020. Bautanzt Here merges dance and theatre, creating a unique language to tell meaningful and visually engaging stories in unconventional performance spaces, usually outdoors. The company's mission is to bring the art of dance to wider audiences and beyond common performance venues, especially to those who usually don't attend dance shows.

Bautanzt Here has been honored to present their vision through site-specific works performed at Atlanta Contemporary Pavilion (while in residency with Dance Canvas), Piedmont Park, Colony Square, 54 Columns, and 7 Stages Theatre. In spring 2021, Nadya Zeitlin and the company's guest artists were residents at the Hambidge Cross-Pollination Art Lab as part of Dance Hub ATL. In spring 2022, Bautanzt Here participated in the Art of the Atlanta BeltLine. In May and June 2022, they presented a series of site-specific performances in Downtown Atlanta, inspired by Atlanta Central Library and funded by Arts & Entertainment Atlanta.

The improvisations of Dan Carey Bailey, Chris Suarez, and Kenito Murray have many identities. Blending acoustic, electric and electronic sounds, they create long and winding paths along slowly evolving landscapes. Shifting between the still fog of ambient textures and the vibrant neon lights of exciting rhythms and melodies, their collaborations remain consistent only in their ability to change, finding new spaces for each nuance of emotion to set its roots and grow.

Skillshot builds community through esports. They operate online and offline competitive video game competitions, from grassroots amateur tournaments to professional global leagues and live arena events, supported by industry-leading video production, active community management, and authentic integration of brand partners.
