


Native Bee Hotels - Community Workshop with John Kotab
This introduces participants to the life cycle of solitary stem-nesting bees and the native plants they depend on. Attendees will then create their own bee hotels to take home—each featuring a 5-inch square sheltered opening filled with stems and/or blocks. Participants will also receive a seed packet to start a garden of hollow-stem plants that provide essential habitat for these important pollinator.

Nature Night Ramble with William Downs
Experience the Hambidge woods after dark on this 2-hour guided night hike. As we explore about 1 mile of trails, participants will tune into the sights, sounds, and atmosphere of the forest at night. This hike offers a chance to discover the nocturnal side of Southern Appalachia, from the calls of night creatures to the quiet stillness of the woods under the stars.

An Exploration in Charcoal with Beth Loveland
Charcoal has a wild side—it can be smoky and subtle, or bold and unruly. In this workshop, we’ll court all of its personalities by working with vine, compressed, and powdered charcoal across a range of surfaces. Think of it as a laboratory for mark-making: we’ll smear, erase, layer, splash, and discover how chance and control dance together on the page.

During this community workshop led by artist George Long, attendees will explore different approaches to drawing on paper with a variety of non traditional materials inside the studio and outside the studio.

Experience all that the woods of the Southern Appalachia have to offer with renowned herbalist, educator, and author Patricia Kyristi Howell. On this 90 min hike, you'll learn to identify various native herbs and wildflowers found in the lush forests and fields of the Hambidge Center.
