4TH SATURDAY: Fairy Doors

  • The Hambidge Center 105 Hambidge Court Rabun Gap, GA, 30568 United States (map)

4th Saturday Community Workshops are offered free to our Rabun County community.

Ester Lipscomb will teach participants how to hand build clay fairy doors inspired by the wild and beautiful Rabun county landscape. Students will use texture tools, combine multiple clay bodies, hand build sculptural elements to add to their doors, and learn proper pottery techniques to ensure their work survives drying and firing. After building their fairy doors, participants will use Stroke and Coat glazes to add color. After firing, the fairy doors will be suitable for indoor or outdoor display.

All experience levels are welcome.

** Students will leave their fairy doors to dry and to be fired at Hambidge. Students will be alerted via email when finished doors are ready for pickup, approximately six to eight weeks after class.

ELIGIBILTY: Your primary address must be in Rabun County in order to attend this workshop. Upon arriving, you will be asked to show ID with your address.

  • Space is limited to 8 participants.

  • Each participant must register separately.

  • Open to local creatives over the age of 12.

  • Minors must be accompanied by a participating adult. Minors will not be asked for ID; only adults.
