Sun and Zhang Family Distinguished Fellowship for AAPI Social Practice Artists of the American South Announced by the Hambidge Center
New fellowship expands support for Asian American Pacific Islander social practice artists connected to the American South
Rabun Gap, Georgia— The Hambidge Center for Creative Arts & Sciences is proud to announce the launch of the Sun and Zhang Family Distinguished Fellowship for AAPI Social Practice Artists of the American South, a new opportunity designed to uplift Asian American Pacific Islander artists whose work is deeply rooted in social practice and the cultural landscapes of the Southern United States.
The fellowship will be awarded to an AAPI social practice artist working in the South or with deep roots in the region. It recognizes artists whose work bridges creative expression with meaningful social engagement, contributing to vibrant, equitable cultural ecosystems throughout the American South.
The Sun and Zhang Family Distinguished Fellowship joins Hambidge’s roster of distinguished fellowships that support creatives of all disciplines. Hambidge’s Distinguished Fellowships are part of the Center’s broader mission to foster artistic innovation and cross-disciplinary exchange through residencies that offer time, space, and community for deep creative focus. Distinguished Fellowships are merit-based awards, removing the fees for a two-week residency and providing a $700 stipend.
The Fellowship will be available for the Fall 2026 session (September–December). Applications will be accepted March 1 through April 15, 2026, as part of Hambidge’s Fall Session application cycle.
Made possible through the generous support of the Sun and Zhang families, the Fellowship reflects Hambidge’s ongoing commitment to equity, representation, and the transformative power of socially engaged art. More information about eligibility and application details will be available at https://www.hambidge.org/guidelines-apply.
